BLOU: Un village ancien qui évolue avec son temps BLOU est une des localités les plus anciennement habitées de l'Anjou. Sa situation élevée au milieu d'un pays riche, au bord d'une vallée régulièrement inondée, a dû en faire un refuge naturel dès les premiers âges. Au point dit ‘ Le Grippeau', qui émerge le premier au dessus des inondations de la Loire, on a trouvé des amphores romaines et des briques en abondance. Le bourg est dominé par une butte de 109 mètres (au dessus du niveau de la mer), point culminant de toute la région, d'où l'on peut admirer un magnifique panorama. Par temps clair, on y distingue très nettement les flèches de la cathédrale Saint Maurice d'Angers (45 km). Son église romane XI, XIIème siècle , très justement célèbre, dédiée à Notre-Dame, est classée monument historique. Elle renferme une pièce intéressante, classée elle aussi, une crosse eucharistique du XVIIème siècle qui surmonte le maître autel. Visite : ouverte de Pâques à la Toussaint de 8h à 19h. Sinon, demander la clef au bar-tabac. La Baronnie, La Citadelle, La Tour du Coq, Le Temple, La Cathédrale sont des noms de fermes qui rappellent des souvenirs du Moyen-âge. C'était alors une des quatre baronnies d'Anjou. La Modetaie, lieu seigneurial du XVIIème siècle, devint au milieu du XXème siècle un séminaire pour vocations tardives, puis vers les années 70, un institut d'éducation spécialisée pour enfants difficiles jusqu'en 2004. Cette demeure a été récemment achetée par une congrégation bouddhiste pour en faire un centre international de congrès.

BLOU: An old village which evolves/moves with its time BLOU is one of the localities in the past inhabited of Anjou. Its situation raised in the middle of a rich country, at the edge of a regularly flooded valley, had to make a natural refuge of it as of the first ages.
